Seeing into the Future

Recently, I have heard the same line of reasoning from several different people. It goes like this: “If Hitler’s mother had aborted him then the lives of many millions of people would have been saved”. Please ignore for a moment the fact that many people deny the Holocaust even happened.

Let’s also ignore for a minute that human life is a sacred gift from God, and that God writes the rules for how and when a human life is cut off.

If we believe in “preemptive capital punishment”, in other words, “killing someone before they are born, or prohibiting the conception of that person, in order to prevent the wrong actions that person may act out in life”, how exactly do we propose to determine guilt in advance? Doesn’t this sound like something out of a movie?

Maybe we should turn our attention to our long-term guests on death row before we try our hand at seeing into the future.
